Meredith specialises in all areas of ‘soft-IP’ – trademarks, copyright, design rights, trade secrets and passing off – acting on both the contentious and commercial sides. She has a particular interest in data protection and privacy as well and is committed to helping companies to manage their data in a positive and beneficial way. Meanwhile, recent work has seen her cooperating with customs authorities to block the trade in counterfeits of her client’s goods. Another string to Meredith’s bow is advertising and marketing law – having written her LLM thesis on misleading ‘greenwashing’ claims in advertising, she has considerable expertise in the field.
Meredith loves working at the cutting-edge of a rapidly evolving field – what first interested her in information law was the way that it constantly changed as technology advanced. She also appreciates the practical nature of intellectual property law, as it relates to the design of real-world objects that play a daily role in enhancing our lives, and enjoys helping companies to protect and exploit the fruits of their creativity. Unsurprisingly, then, her advice is rooted in the real-world – a hands-on lawyer, she is always looking to deescalate challenging situations and find workable solutions to commercial problems.
Before joining Leeway, Meredith undertook LLMs in Private Law Practice and Information Law, and held student internships at two major Dutch law firms, where she focused on IP and IT, consumer and privacy law.
